WiFi hotspots?

    this prolly really doesnt help but i belive the WAP’s signal is broadcasted in more of a figure 8…..

    Hm i dont think so even with that receiver you swhouldn get a 1km radius. If you know that someone has a wlan connection then use NetStumbler to find out. Get it at my friends site //

    It depends on the range at the transmitter side not only on how good ur receiver is, I don’t think there is a hotspot covering more than few hundered feets. there are wifi technologies though that covers kilometres but usually it is used for companies , think of it like you have a good ear however there is no voice to hear, does enhancing ur hearing capabilities makes ur hear a voice that is no transmitted??

    A kilometer is about 3200 ft.

    With a good receiver and a directional antenna (assuming you has a line of sight to the WIFI hotspot) you might get a few hundred feet, not a few thousand. My guess is you have neighbors that have wireless and are much closer.
