What is the diff between WiFi and Wireless Internet? There isn’t really a difference technically. a WiFi spot, is a place where you can connect to the internet wirelessly. Mobile Broadband, is something on your phone, or a card that you plug in to your computer and use Cell Phone companies to provide you with internet service.

I’ve really been wanting an imaginary monkey, so i’m going to try and answer to the best of my ability…

WiFi hotspots, are similar to wireless internet. They’re areas where you can get highspeed wireless internet access by paying some sort of fee, like at starbucks, barnes and nobles, etc.

Wireless Internet is similar, in the fact that it’s highspeed wireless internet access. The similarities in the two is that they are both short range. A WiFi Hotspot would utilize Wireless Internet to function. You can also have Wireless Internet in your home by hooking up your internet service provider’s (ISP) equipment up to a wireless router or access point. Some ISP’s (such as AT&T/SBC and Verizon) offer equipment with Wireless capabilities built in.

Last but not least, is Mobile Broadband. This is a newer technology that’s similar to your cell phone, and not available in all areas yet. You would need the necessary equipment to utilize Mobile Broadband, such as a PCMCIA card, sold by your wireless cell phone provider. With this equipment, it would be possible for you to travel in your vehicle, or basically move around geographically, and as you leave one wireless sector, there is a soft hand off of your information to another wireless sector. This is a wider range of highspeed wireless internet access, but again, does not work in all areas.

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions :)

OH WOW! A monkey! I could use one of them….okay here’s my crack at it.

A WiFi Hotspot is a location where there is wireless internet available for your usage if you have a wireless card. Commonly found in airports, coffee shops, etc.

Wireless internet is exactly what it is. Instead of having a modem with a line going to your cable or phone line, it pulls the internet signal from a tower to the modem. You connect your PC to the modem. This whole setup is very much like how your cell phone works.

Mobile Broadband commonly refers to PDAs (Blackberry and Palm) that can surf the internet through the wireless phone provider. On the flipside, it can also come as a modem PCMCIA card you plug into your laptop and you pretty much dial a number or connect directly to a tower/service that’s broadcasting the internet wirelessly.
