What’s the difference between DSL and Broadband?

may asked:

I had DSL before that gave me a steady speed and I am curious if broadband cable is that way too. The ads say speeds with “UP TO” and I want to know if it does give you a high speed only in bursts.

Please help!  Thank you!

    broadband providers

ADSL is a type of Internet connection.

Broadband is a general label that is (incorrectly) given to any type of internet connection that doesn’t use an analogue modem.

    broadband offer

Broadband is a general term for high-speed internet.

Basically, DSL -is- broadband. As well as cable, satellite, 3g, etc.

The bursts of speed would be a latency issue. DSL and Cable have excellent latency, however 3G and satellite often have a very high latency which means slower to make the actual connection.

    broadband bandwidth

There is no specific definition of the speed of a “broadband” connection but in general any Internet connection using DSL or via Cable may be considered a broadband connection from the point of view of a pc user. In other words, the same thing.

They have to say “up to”, as there is no guarantee that you will experience the speed they offer, there are so many possible variables, including line quality, distance from exchange and so on.

    high speed internet deals

DSL offers dedicated bandwidth between your home and service provider. There is no guarantee for the same bandwidth beyond your service provider link. But DSL offers maximum bandwidth lesser than the cable modems.

    Broadband is “Always on” setup.
