Here in Tampa, FIOS is $50 a month for 15 megabit down 2 megabit up (next grade above that is $200, not a very residential-friendly price), but the cable provider offers up to 20 megabits down. This is exceptionally fast cable as I understand it, most cable providers still offer about 5 megabits down.
As far as glitches, I experienced none for the time which I used FiOS, and I know of nobody who has had a bad experience with FiOS. I’d recommend it if you’re dissatisfied with your current connection. Be sure to check the speed of your current connection and compare it to the speed of the FiOS you want to buy.
I do notice that on broadband connections, it is very often the server’s connection that I am waiting for, not mine. It takes me about an hour to download a Ubuntu CD whether on a 1.5 megabit or a 5 megabit connection. You’ll notice the performance increase best if you’re a gamer, you’ll see your latency drop, I got as low as 20ms on FiOS, I was impressed.

Having FIOS means that you will have your own direct line from your home to the CO (central office), and you will not be sharing your signal with anybody. If you have cable for your Internet and experience slowdowns at specific times, that is because you are sharing your signal with your neighbors, neighborhood, and local area. I also like that with FIOS if you ever loose power you will still have dial tone because of the bbu, that is if you have a non cordless phone.
The best thing about FIOS I have to say is that they use a proud union work force, not contractors that get paid by the job. You can be sure that your job will be done the the highest standards.
As far as the cost, it all depends on what services you get. Such as type of stb (set top box) standard, standard dvr, hd, hd dvr. As well as options such as movies packages, internet speed, and landline services.

I prefer extra large, with buttons and Mickey Mouse stickers.
