how many channels are there in T1 and E1 communication lines. What signaling protocol is used for the D channel?

microflexsystems asked:

what is the differece between the B and D channels?
Are they of same channel capacity or bandwidth?
Are the same signaling protocols used for these two Channels?
Do they serve same purpose ie the B and D channles?
What are the differences between T1 and E1 lines?

T1 has 24 channels, one can be used for signalling, E1 has 32 channels, two are reserved for signalling. The B channel is a bearer channel and carries either a voice channel or a data channel. The D channel is a signalling channel that controls the bearer channels over the T1, or multiple T1 lines.
The B channel may be just voice or it may be 56 or 64 Kb data. There are a number of signalling schemes for T1 lines.
Both T1 and E1 consist of 64 Kbit channels, the T1 with 24 channels operates at 1.544 Mbps while the E1 with 32 channels operates at 2.048 Mbps. There are some signalling differences as well, remember that the E1 has two signalling channels.
I think that I covered briefly all of your questions.
