Does your comcast internet cable and cable tv share the same outlet?

DrNutrition asked:

I have comcast internet but not cable tv. If I split the line can I still get cable tv? This means connecting one cord to internet router and the other to tv?

Most likely they put a filter on the line up on the pole side which blocks most of the frequencies that TV channels reside on, but allows the data stream to pass through. If the cable installer was lazy, he might not have put a filter and you could put a splitter and run it to your TV. If you only get a few channels, that means there’s a filter.

Comcast usually uses blockers or signals to prevent you from recieving services that you do not pay for… but you may have gotten lucky and got lost in the system… either way, it’s worth a try!
One summer in college, I was lucky enough for that to happen to me. But that was with Adelphia and they have gone bankrupt, go figure

You could try, but as is Comcast is only sending you an internet signal (not cable), so that could be a problem. good luck anyway

Probably. Only one way to find out! Connect your splitter and and see what happens

Normally yes, but ask Comcast if it is thought to make sure.

No, it shouldnt work, depending on if your installer put the filter on your line. If it does work and you use it consider yourself a theif. I usually dont care if people are doing that but one of the posts above me said no wonder Adelphia went bankrupt…it wasnt just because of the stupidity of the owners but from alot of people stealing cable. I worked for both companys and when it was Adelphia there was alot of that. As soon as Comcast took over they had an audit team come in and fix it. You would be surprised of the people calling in to hook up “new” service. The business boomed! The prices havent changed in a long time all because everyone was paying for the correct service. Will you get caught if you do it? probably not, will your internet work as good? no probably not. The signal is going to be cut in half, the return wont be as good which will slow your internet down dramatically.
