Be sure your laptop has a built in wireless card in it first. Then purchase a wireless router. It will come with directions on how to connect it.

    I suggest LinkSys!

You can do what cnewman suggested, or if you don’t have a wireless network card, you can buy a router that you can just plug your computer into. Also, you can just unplug the cord from your computer that runs to your modem, and plug it into the laptop.

If you do get a router, I suggest anything BUT LinkSys. It’s just too troublesome in mine and others’ experiences. NetGear is a good choice. Try visiting a Best Buy or any local electronics store and ask about it.

To answer your actual question, no, you do not need to add another line.

The short answer is no, you don’t need to pay your cable company any more money just to access the Internet with an additional computer.

What you probably will need, though, is a wireless router (assuming that your laptop has a built-in wireless card, which most newer systems do). Buckeye cable may have set you up with a combo modem/wireless router. If so, their tech support may be able to help you get connected. If not, you will need to purchase a wireless router for your home. The router would be connected to your cable modem via an ethernet cable. Your desktop computer would then connect to your router by another ethernet cable (probably what it’s using now). You would then be able to connect wirelessly to the internet from your laptop. Hope that this helps!
