Edward Cable Cutter asked:
I have Broadband DSL here in the Bronx from my ISP “DSLONE”. Can I assume that all DSL performance is the same ? Since it is based on my land line phone service. Do some ISPs have better performing DSL? I do not know broadband technology but I am trying to learn.

speed internet
Not all DSL performance is the same. The closer you are to the DSLAM, the higher the bandwidth the ISP can offer. All ISP’s are oversubscribed; that means that if they sell 1Gbps of DSL bandwidth, they do not have 1Gbps on backbone bandwidth. This is true for all ISP; carrier and residential. Some ISP’s are more oversubscribed than others.
rural high speed internet
No.
DSL comes in many flavors – ADSL, ADSL2+, VDSL, SDSL etc..
DSL is attempting to achieve high bandwidth over the same crappy twisted pair wires that regular telephone service is delivered over. Many of these wires, specially in a place the Bronx have been around for many years. DSL is also very distance sensitive. The shorter the run of wires between you and the DSLAM the better your performance.
